Vinyette is a Brooklyn-based Alternative Rock group consisting of five individuals. I originally met one of the guys who also does Website Design and we had begun working together on creative projects several months ago. While he is more of a code-guru, I am more towards the print end of things on the artistic spectrum. With that in mind, my friend had asked me if I would like to take on this logo project for his band, to which I was most obliged.
Here you can see the process that we went through to arrive at the final solution at the bottom. After an initial meeting with the band we discussed certain approaches to the design. They were all in agreement that they wanted to incorporate the pie symbol and maybe try to incorporate the symbol into the letter 'V' as well.
I started sketching that day and came up with several different options, all of which I presented in our next meeting. From here it was what the band likes, what they didn't like, and then I was able to go back and revise these a bit before jumping into Illustrator. Next, I began doing some digital comps which you will see below the sketches.
From here it was presenting these ideas, and further developing some of them while unfortunately leaving some of the other creative ideas in the dust. The band and myself thought it would be cool to introduce the tree/branches and to sort of develop a custom font for them. The final version of the logo has all of this - the pie symbol, the branches, all made with a custom font that was designed and manipulated in Adobe Illustrator.
The band was very pleased and has since given me some more work. I am currently working on a poster design for them that I will be unveiling when I relaunch my Portfolio Site in the next few weeks. Check these guys out if you are in the NYC area, they really put on a great show and it was a pleasure doing this project for them.
